Children's Hospital in DC

"Hugs can do great amounts of good... especially for children." Princess Diana

Wayne and I are part of at Children's Hospital of DC Guardian's Society and Circle of Life.  Our "gifts" are directed to the "Complementary Pain Center" at Children's Hospital.  I am so excited to share that Children's has embraced Healing Touch to help children with pain.  Through our donations, we are helping train nurses, doctors and staff to support children and families while they stay at Children's for care.

National Capital Therapy Dogs, Inc.

"Petting, scratching, and cuddling a dog could be as soothing to the mind and heart as deep meditation and almost as good for the soul as prayer." Dean Koontz

In 1990 Wayne and I founded National Capital Therapy Dogs, Inc. (NCTD)  We are please to know that the organization is still thriving and branching out to serve folks in need along the east coast.  We currently assist as mentors and historians for the organization.  NCTD currently visits more than 40 facilities in Washington, D.C., its Maryland and Virginia Suburbs, Baltimore, Southern Virginia, and the the Delmarva Peninsula. These include the National Institutes of Health, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and other major area hospitals; rehabilitation centers for adults and children, nursing homes, assisted living, and hospice facilities; schools and public libraries; and special needs programs.

NCTD provides a full range of animal-assisted therapy services to approved facilities, depending upon the needs of the client.  The people we visit include medical and psychiatric patients, stroke and trauma clients, residents in facilities for the elderly, palliative care patients, abused women and their children, homeless families and troubled teenagers. We also have an active READ® (Reading Education Assistance Dogs®) program which encourages children to read to our dogs in order to improve their reading motivation, fluency and confidence.
